A significant recognition of achievements to Maria Dolores Ugarte Martínez
On 17 Jun 2024, Maria Dolores Ugarte Martínez, President of FENStatS, was awarded a medal by the Spanish Society of Statistics and Operations Research (SEIO) for the excellence of her research in spatial statistics.
She has made significant methodological contributions and pubslished her results in prestigious international journals in the field of statistics and probability. She has stepped up in the dissemination and propagation of statistics as an indispensable tool in quantitative research in non-statistical disciplines. This extends beyond statistics, fostering its use in fields like epidemiology and environmental studies. Notably, her research on gender-based violence in India was awarded the prestigious SEIO-BBVA prize for the best applied contribution in statistics in 2021.
She pursued an exceptional international career in research as well as in academic and scientific leadership. This includes long-standing dedication to FENStatS and her coordination of the mathematics area within the Spanish Research Funding Agency.
She served as Vice-President for Statistics at SEO, and Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal TEST.
