Network Analysis, Inference, and Modeling, Fréjus, France, October 6-11, 2019

The ECAS 2019 summer school on Network Analysis, Inference, and Modeling, organized by the French Statistical Society (SFdS), will take place in Fréjus, France, on 6-11 October, 2019. It will presents an introduction and recent advances in statistical network modeling, with a special emphasis on main concepts of network analysis, sparse inference, high-dimensional data and graphical models. It will address theoretical, methodological as well as applied and practical aspects of this field.

International Workshop on Statistical Modelling 2019, Giumarăes, Portugal, July 7-12, 2019

The 34th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling (IWSM) will be held in Guimarães 7-12 July 2019. IWSM is one of the major activities of the Statistical Modelling Society, founded with the purpose of promoting and encouraging statistical modelling in its widest sense. The workshop aims to involve both academic and professional statisticians and data analysts with a particular focus on real data problems which involve an element of novel statistical modelling, or novel model application.

International Prize in Statistics Awarded to Bradley Efron

Alexandria, Virginia, USA (November 12, 2018): The International Prize in Statistics has been awarded to Bradley Efron, professor of statistics and biomedical data science at Stanford University, in recognition of the bootstrap, a method he developed in 1977 for assessing the uncertainty of scientific results that has had extraordinary impact across many scientific fields.

FENStatS in occasion of the ESD wishes also to underline the importance of the independence of Official Statistics, expressing deep concern over the legal proceedings against Andreas Georgiou, the former president of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), and other senior ELSTAT officials.
A letter of concern signed by the Presidents of 23 European Statistical Societies has been sent to the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Alexis Tsipras.
